I teach students of all ages, starting from 5 years old, through to teens and adults. I find it’s best to start lessons as early as possible to gain a thorough understanding of pitch and aural technique. Lessons are adjusted to cater for each student’s experience and learning levels.
-
Of course not! I teach a range of ages and students with differing experience levels. Lessons can start with the fundamentals and gradually build confidence, technique and musical understanding.

Each lesson starts with vocal warm-ups and strengthening exercises for the voice and body. Breath work and aural exercises are also included: a singer can’t only rely on their voice to succeed! Following a thorough warm up, students either discuss song options they would like to learn, or have a song chosen for them by Jodi. Students will work on their chosen song for a number of weeks; mastering lyrics, diction, expressive techniques, performance and vocal techniques, concepts of pitch and exploring creative interpretation.

Lessons are held in the comfort of your own home. Jodi travels to clients across Sydney's Eastern Suburbs and surrounding areas.

A piano or keyboard is not essential, and lessons can absolutely still go ahead without one. However, I highly recommend having at least a basic, affordable keyboard available at home (even something cheap from kmart is sufficient).
Having a keyboard gives us complete freedom during lessons, particularly when working on aural training, pitch recognition, musical exercises or simply learning melodies of a new song. Aural skills are an invaluable part of vocal development and can help strengthen your musical ear, improve pitch accuracy and develop a deeper understanding of the music you're singing. If you’re investing in you’re child’s musical ear, and skills, the cheap keyboard will pay for itself 10 times over.

I currently offer in-person lessons only. Singing involves much more than just what we hear — I need to be able to see how you use your entire body while singing, including your posture, breathing and physical habits that may be affecting your voice. Being in the same room allows me to observe, listen and respond more accurately throughout the lesson, ensuring exercises and techniques are tailored to you in real time.
-
Absolutely - I often take temporary clients during the school term to assist with performance assessments and exams. In the past I have assisted students with HSC Music 1 preparation, tutoring individuals for aural and written assessments. In addition, the aural training exercises included in our warm ups are intended to provide each student with the tools to identify musical patterns, which are skills that can further translate into easily learning and singing complex choral parts or musical pieces for school assessments.

I’d love to be able to see as many of you as possible each week, and with enough notice of a cancellation, I'm often able to offer that lesson time to another student and I'll always do my best to find an alternative lesson time.
• Lessons cancelled within 24 hours’ notice or more can be rescheduled (subject to availability) or credited to a future lesson.
• Lessons cancelled on the day will incur the full lesson fee.
• If I need to cancel a lesson, I'll reschedule (subject to availability) or provide a lesson credit.
• If a student is unwell, please let me know as early as possible. Where possible, we'll reschedule the lesson or apply a lesson credit.
• If I arrive and nobody is home, or the student is unavailable, the lesson is considered a late cancellation and the full lesson fee applies.

Yes! Your first lesson is completely free and is designed as a trial lesson for new students who are interested in commencing ongoing singing lessons. It’s an opportunity for us to meet, discuss your goals and skill levels, and experience what a lesson with Jodi is like.
Please note that the complimentary trial lesson does not apply to one-off or short-term lessons booked specifically for exam, assessment, audition or performance preparation, as these sessions are tailored to a particular goal and require more specialised preparation. These lessons are charged at the standard lesson rate.
